Intro

This invention relates to the ferrous metallurgy and is applicable for refinement and homogenization of microstructures together with over threefold increase of the impact resistance at a strength conservation in an industrial product made of conventional grey, ductile cast irons and low alloy structural steels with employment of casting, hot deformation, depositing, additive manufacturing etc.

A method of heat treatment for conventional grey, ductile cast irons and low alloy structural steels comprising: austenitizing under the temperature and holding conditions being optimal or exceeding such ones for a grade of Fe-based alloy used; furnace isothermal holding under the temperature providing new ultra-fine ferrite grains formation on any type of the microstructure and crystal lattice defects, during the time necessary for diffusive redistribution of the chemical elements to form their homogeneous spatial arrangements; finishing cooling within the medium specified by product technical requirements and a CCT alloy grade diagram.

The method of heat treatment for conventional grey, ductile cast irons and low alloy structural steels provides refinement and homogenization of their microstructures together with over threefold increase of the impact resistance at a strength conservation. The method may be realized in the course of cooling after the optimal or high-temperature austenizing. The same finishing effects may be also obtained in the course of reheating the above type alloys from the room temperature after the previously conducted austenitizing with corresponding full cooling. Under both method realization variants, the furnace isothermal holding parameters are the same. The method may be employed in manufacturing an industrial product by the traditional mould and continuous casting, hot deformation, thermo-mechanical treatment, depositing, additive manufacturing etc. to obtain required microstructures and properties right away after the cycle finishing. The invented effects are conserved after any further additional heat treating including new high temperature austenitizing.
